The Archives & Special Collections Department at CSU Dominguez Hills is looking for a full-time processing archivist to complete arrangement and description work related to The African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians (ADSMM) Program/The Georgia & Nolan Payton Archive of Sacred Music. This is a 9-month full-time position with benefits and the possibility of extending the position beyond the initial 9 months (pending funding).

This project will include traditional archival re-housing, arrangement and description including the creation of finding aids for two or more collections. There may also be selected digitization work with the use of CONTENTdm. At the end of the project, the employees will produce a finding aid published on the Online Archive of California.

The Payton Archive of Sacred Music consists of music, books, periodicals, documents, audio & visual materials, and oral histories. The primary goal of the Archive is to facilitate research and documentation of collections of African Diaspora sacred music (church music and religious concert music) created and/or performed by the multicultural population of Southern California. The Archival collections in this project include the Hansonia Caldwell Papers, the Nolan Archive Collection, and the papers of choral leader Albert McNeil. See: http://www.adsmm.org/index.php

CSU Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), located near Los Angeles in the city of Carson, provides education, scholarship and services that are, by design, accessible and transformative. CSUDH is among the most ethnically diverse universities in the United States. The university offers 43 undergraduate majors and 19 master’s degree areas to nearly 15,000 students with about 1,100 teaching faculty. The CSUDH Library has nearly half a million volumes and e-books along with a host of scholarly databases. The Archives and Special Collections Department is charged with enhancing access to primary sources. The CSUDH Archives consists of nearly 3,000 linear feet of archival objects (1700s-2000s) as well as 200,000 photographs. The CSUDH Archives and the CSU System Archives (located at CSUDH) has about 240 finding aids in the Online Archives of California.

Qualifications:
BA in relevant field or enrollment in or a recent graduate of an MA or MLS program /or equivalent archives experience. Strong oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with archival theory and techniques: appraisal, accessioning, arrangement and description. Familiarity with preservation practices, including digitization. Familiarity with office software applications especially Excel. Ability to lift and move 40 lb containers. This is a full-time, 40 hours/week/ 9 months position. Hours are M-F 8-5.
