This is a call for volunteer counselors only! There will be a separate call in the next couple of weeks for people to sign up to meet with a counselor.
The 2017 Annual meeting in Portland is quickly approaching. We are once again calling for volunteers to provide career counseling—to give advice on resumes and to answer questions about specializations and your experiences as an archivist. We are grateful to those of you who have given your time in the past to help make the SAA career center a success.
For the 2017 conference the Career Center will be open:
Wednesday, July 26: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Thursday, July 27: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Friday, July 28: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
If you are planning on attending the conference, please consider volunteering your time to review application materials or give general job-searching advice to your colleagues and soon-to-be colleagues.
If you’d like to volunteer as a counselor this year, please follow these steps to sign up:
1) Take a look at the available time slots: http://go.wisc.edu/3xg557 (Up to three counselors may be volunteering at the same time; blank spaces are free for signing up.)
2) Email Meredith Lowe at firstname.lastname@example.org with the time/s you’d like to volunteer, which can be as short as 30 minutes but we’d prefer an hour minimum. You may volunteer as much time as you’d like. Please include the name of the institution at which you currently work or most recently worked.
3) Meredith will add you to the schedule, and follow up with next steps.
This year we are again offering resume review by appointment. Attendees can make specific reservations (30 minute time blocks) with counselors (you!) to ensure they have time to speak with the counselor of most interest to them. Members who sign up for an appointment with a specific counselor will be put in touch with that person by email a few weeks prior to the appointment, to give you an opportunity to touch base and for the advisee to send you any relevant materials, such as their CV/resume.
I am looking forward to hearing from many of you, and I appreciate your willingness to give your time to help other SAA members succeed. If you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to email me at email@example.com.
If you are someone who is seeking to making an appointment with an counselor at the SAA Career Center, please look for a separate announcement with instructions for making an appointment early next month.
